Why Are We Here?
Why are we here at all, why is there something rather than nothing, and why does that something include beings who ask why. Christianity gives a bold and ancient answer: we are here because we were made, on purpose, by a God who wanted us, and made in his own image so that we could know and be known. That is not a proof handed to you; it is a claim that makes strange sense of the facts, that we are the kind of creature who loves, chooses, aches for meaning, and cannot shake the sense that our lives are for something.

Let's take the question seriously
Every worldview has to answer this, and the alternatives are worth naming honestly. If we are only the accidental byproduct of matter and time, then the love, beauty, and moral weight we all live by are ultimately illusions we cannot help believing. Many thoughtful people hold that view with courage. But notice how impossible it is to actually live as though your child, your grief, or your sense of justice were nothing but chemistry. We behave, all of us, as if we are here for a reason. Christianity says that instinct is not naive; it is a memory of the truth.
The clue in the ache
The Bible's answer to why we are here starts in the first chapter: God created man in his own image. That single line changes everything. It means you are not an afterthought or a resource, but a person made to reflect a Person, made for relationship, dignity, and love. And it locates us inside a larger belonging: in him we live, and move, and have our being, wrote Paul, quoting the poets of a pagan city. We are here not by our own doing and not for our own sake alone, but held every moment inside the life of the God who made us.
Where meaning is finally found
If you want to know why we are here, look at what we were made to do, and then at the One who came to make it possible again. By him were all things created, Scripture says of Jesus, things visible and invisible; all were created by him and for him. We are here for him, and for the love he pours out. Jesus said the whole of it comes down to loving God with everything and loving your neighbour as yourself. That is why you are here: to be loved by the God who made you, and to become a person who loves. He came to restore exactly that.

Why do we exist at all?
Christianity answers that we exist because a personal God chose to create, and made human beings in his own image to know and love him and one another. We are not accidents of matter but intended persons, which is why we cannot live as though love and meaning were nothing.
Isn't it possible we are just here by chance?
Some hold that view sincerely. But it is nearly impossible to live it, since we all treat love, justice, and meaning as real. Christianity says that instinct is trustworthy: the sense that we are here for a reason reflects the truth that we were made on purpose, by God.
What are we here for, according to Jesus?
To love God with all we are and to love our neighbour as ourselves. Jesus said all things were made through him and for him, so we are here for relationship with God and for love of others, a purpose available in the most ordinary life.
