The question, taken seriously
When Life Feels Meaningless
If life feels meaningless right now, please hear this gently before anything else: that feeling is real and heavy, but it is not the final truth about your life. Sometimes the emptiness is telling you something practical, that you are exhausted, isolated, grieving, or carrying a depression that deserves real care. And sometimes it is a deeper hunger that nothing temporary has been able to fill. Christianity does not shame the feeling or rush you past it. It sits with you in it, and quietly insists that your life still has meaning even on the day you cannot feel it at all.
“Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.”Ecclesiastes 2:11
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”Psalm 34:18
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”Matthew 11:28
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”John 10:10
Let's take the question seriously
The writer of Ecclesiastes looked at everything his hands had built and said there was no profit in it, all was vanity and vexation of spirit. That is not a stranger's opinion; it is one of the most honest sentences in the Bible, and it means your sense of emptiness is not a failure of faith or nerve. It is an ancient and human thing. Meaning does not usually return by being lectured into you, or by pretending you feel it. It comes back slowly, in smaller ways: being truly known by one person, taking one honest step, receiving one undeserved kindness.
The clue in the ache
It helps to separate two things: the feeling of meaninglessness and the fact of your worth. Feelings are real, but they are weather, not the sky. On the days meaning drains out of everything, your value has not actually changed, because it was never based on your mood or your output in the first place. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, the Psalm says, which means the very hollowness you are ashamed of is the thing that draws God close, not the thing that pushes him away. You do not have to feel meaning to be held by the One who gives it.
Where meaning is finally found
Into exactly this ache, Jesus said the gentlest words in the Bible: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. He did not say come when you have it together, or come once the emptiness lifts. He said come now, tired and empty-handed. He is the one who said he came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly, not a thinner survival but a fuller life than the numbness you are feeling. The way back to meaning is not a technique. It is turning, however weakly, toward the Person who made you and stayed.

Questions people ask
Why does my life feel meaningless even when nothing is obviously wrong?
Emptiness can settle in even when life looks full, and Ecclesiastes describes that exact experience. Sometimes it points to exhaustion, isolation, or depression worth getting help for. Christianity also names a deeper hunger for God that temporary things cannot satisfy. Both can be true at once, and both deserve honesty.
Does my life still have meaning if I cannot feel it?
Yes. Your worth is not produced by your feelings; it is given by the God who made you and does not change with your mood. Feelings of meaninglessness are real but they are not the final word. You are still known and loved even in seasons when meaning is impossible to feel.
What should I do when everything feels pointless?
Be gentle and do not try to fix it all today. Tell one safe person honestly how you feel, since being known by one other human is often the first thread back. If the emptiness is heavy or lasting, please also reach out to a doctor, counselor, or a crisis line. Faith and real help belong together.
