Access to God
Access to God is the freedom to come near to him without fear. The writer of Hebrews says we have boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus. What was once forbidden, the very presence of God behind the veil, is now open. The blood that once kept sinners out has become the way in for those who trust him.

What it means
Under the old covenant, the presence of God dwelt in the innermost room of the temple, the holiest place, shut off by a heavy veil. No one could enter but the high priest, and he only once a year, and never without blood. The whole arrangement announced that sinners could not simply walk into God's presence. Access to God means that barrier is gone. Believers are now invited to draw near, not from a distance and not through a single mediating priest once a year, but directly and with confidence. Hebrews calls this boldness, a freedom to come that is not presumption but the settled right of those the blood has qualified. The nearness once reserved for one man on one day is now the everyday privilege of all who belong to Christ.
How it works
The way in was opened by the blood of Jesus. The old veil declared that unatoned sin bars us from God, and only blood could pass through. On the cross Christ dealt with that sin fully, and Scripture pictures the temple veil tearing as he died, the barrier removed from top to bottom by God himself. Hebrews says we enter the holiest by his blood, meaning his death is the ground of our welcome. We do not approach on the strength of our own worthiness, which could never survive God's presence, but on the strength of what his blood accomplished. Because sin no longer stands between us and God, the way is genuinely open, and we come not trembling at a distance but with boldness.

The one who opens the way is Christ, who is both the sacrifice whose blood we enter by and the great priest who leads us in. He was slain, and in dying he tore down the barrier that his own body had come to bear. Now he stands in the presence of God on our behalf, and by his blood he brings us with him. This access becomes yours through faith, as you come near trusting his death rather than your own record. You do not have to wait outside, hoping to be worthy enough for God.
