A question Jesus asked

Where is your faith?

“And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.”Luke 8:25 · After stilling the storm

What Jesus was really asking

Luke tells the storm story too, and there Jesus asks, Where is your faith? Not, why do you have none, but where is it. As if faith were something they had and mislaid in the panic, left behind on the shore when the waves rose. He asks them to go find it again.

How the question still finds us

Faith rarely disappears all at once. More often it gets misplaced under fear, distraction, and exhaustion, and we forget we ever had it. Jesus' question is oddly hopeful: it assumes the faith is still yours to find. In the middle of what frightens you, He asks, gently, where did you put your trust, and can you bring it back to Me?

Sit with it

Where did your faith go when this last hard thing hit, and how might you find it again?

Lord, I have mislaid my trust in the noise of fear. Help me find it and place it back in You. Amen.

He is still asking

Jesus is not only someone people debate. He is someone who asks, and waits for your answer. You can answer Him now.
