A movement where Christ is named

United Bible Societies

Bible translation & distribution · Founded 1946 · Swindon, England, United Kingdom

United Bible Societies is a global fellowship of national Bible Societies that was formed in 1946 to coordinate their shared work. It brings together dozens of member societies across the world to translate, publish, and distribute the Scriptures and to help people engage with the Bible's message. Its mission is to make the Bible available and accessible to everyone who wants it, in languages and formats people can use.

What they do

United Bible Societies unites national Bible Societies so they can pool expertise for Bible translation, publishing, and distribution. It supports translation projects, trains translators and consultants, and helps produce Scripture in print, audio, digital, and braille formats for readers with different needs.

The fellowship also works to make the Bible accessible in areas affected by poverty, disaster, and persecution, and it develops resources that help churches and readers engage the text. Each member society serves its own country while sharing in the wider global effort.

The Scripture behind the work

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;”

Where the door leads

United Bible Societies works so that men and women everywhere can meet Jesus Christ in the pages of Scripture and be changed by his gospel. By carrying the Bible into every language and place, it clears a path to the Savior it proclaims. A good next step is to find a local Bible Society and read the Gospels for yourself.
