Is there life after death?
The short answer
Christianity answers yes, and rests that answer on the resurrection of Jesus: a man truly dead who was truly raised, as the promise for those who trust Him. The hope is not vague, and not a ghostly forever, but resurrection and a renewed creation where death is undone.
Whether asked in grief or in the small dark hours, this question is really two: is there anything after this, and if there is, is it good. Christianity answers yes to both, and it stakes that answer on one specific claim.
The heart of the Christian hope is not wishful thinking about the afterlife in general. It is the resurrection of Jesus: the claim that a man who was truly dead was truly raised, and that this is the pattern and promise for those who trust Him.

Not a ghostly forever, but a world made new
The Bible's hope is not merely floating souls in a distant heaven. It is fuller than that: a resurrection, bodies healed, tears wiped away, and God dwelling with His people in a renewed creation. It is the mending of everything that death has broken.
