Is it true?
Is Christianity true?
The short answer
Christianity makes a testable claim, not just a comforting one: that Jesus of Nazareth truly lived, was crucified, and was raised from the dead. Its truth rests on that event in history, attested by eyewitnesses who were willing to die rather than deny what they saw. It is fair to examine the evidence honestly, and many who set out to disprove it have found it holds.
Christianity is unusual among worldviews because it stakes everything on a historical claim rather than a private feeling. The apostle Paul said plainly that if Jesus did not rise, the whole faith is worthless and Christians are to be pitied. That is a striking thing to admit, and it means the question can be investigated, not merely believed.
“And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:14
What the case actually rests on
The core facts are widely granted even by skeptical historians: Jesus lived and was executed by Rome, his tomb was found empty, and his followers sincerely believed they met him alive again and were transformed from frightened deserters into bold witnesses. Something happened that turned grief into a movement that swept the ancient world. The resurrection remains the explanation that accounts for all of it at once.
None of this forces belief, and honest doubt is welcome. But Christianity does not ask you to switch off your mind. It invites you to weigh a real claim about a real person, and to notice that it has persuaded thoughtful people across every century and culture.
It comes back to Jesus
In the end, Christianity is true or false depending on one man. If Jesus rose, then his words about God, forgiveness, and life beyond death carry the weight of someone who walked out of his own grave. You do not have to resolve every question first. You can start by looking honestly at him.
