Hidden Word

The verse fades. Keep it in your heart. A verse memory game. The verse appears whole; then its words fade one at a time on a timer. Rebuild it from the tiles, in order, before the last word goes; two decoys hide among the tiles. Three speeds, a streak, five verses a round, and at the end every verse whole again.

How to play

  1. Choose a speed: gentle for short verses and a slow fade, steady for longer ones, swift for long verses that go fast.
  2. A verse appears whole for four seconds. Read it. Take it in.
  3. The words begin to fade in a random order. Tap the tiles below in the verse's order to put them back.
  4. Two decoy words hide among the tiles. A wrong tile shakes the card and resets your streak; nothing else is lost.
  5. Complete the verse and it stands whole again. Five verses a round.
  6. At the end, read every verse whole with its reference, and the streak you kept.

A session, start to finish

Choose gentle. The verse appears whole for four seconds, then the words begin to go, one at a time, in no order you can predict. Tap the tiles back in order; a decoy word waits among them. Complete it and the verse stands whole. Five verses later the round ends with every one of them shown again and the streak you kept. Choose swift when John 3:16 has become yours.

The Scripture it stands on

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Psalm 119:11, King James Version

What it forms in you

Scripture memory that feels like play, thirty-two King James verses across three levels, from the shortest lines to the great promises of John 3:16 and Romans 8:28.

Who it is for

Memorisers, children and grandparents, new believers building their first verses, and anyone who wants a word ready for the dark.

A reflection

The words faded from the screen; they did not fade from you. Which verse do you want to have in the hospital, on the road, when there is no screen at all?

Questions people ask

Which translation are the verses in?

The King James Version, public domain, thirty-two verses across three levels.

What are the decoys?

Two words that do not belong to the verse, mixed into the tiles, so you must know the verse rather than the tile count.

Can I slow it down?

Yes. Gentle speed gives short verses and a slow fade; work up to swift.
