Every stage of life
Finding God Later in Life
No, it is never too late to come to God. Maybe faith was never part of your life, or you drifted from it long ago, and now, later than you meant to, something is drawing you back. You may fear you have missed your chance or wasted too many years. You have not. Jesus welcomed those who came at the very end, and even the thief beside him on the cross was received that same day.
If this is you
Perhaps you always meant to sort out the God question and never did. Perhaps you believed once and life pulled you away. Now, later than you planned, a quiet pull is back, and with it a fear: is it too late for me, have I wasted my chance, would God even want someone who waited this long? The Gospel answers that fear gently and directly.
Jesus meets you here
As Jesus was dying, a criminal beside him turned to him at the very last hour of his life. Jesus did not count the wasted years. He welcomed him at once.
Nicodemus wondered aloud whether a man could begin again when he is old. Jesus said yes, a person can be born anew, at any age.
God does not measure your welcome by how early you came. The door is open now.
A next step
You can come exactly as you are, today. Tell God honestly that you want to know him, even this late, even after everything. Read a little of the Gospel of John, and find people who will walk the rest of the road with you.
Where to go from here
You do not have to have it figured out first. Any of these is a good door in.

You do not have to take anyone’s word for it, ours least of all. Jesus never asked people to sort themselves out before they came to him. He simply said, come and see. Whatever season you are in, however full or empty your hands feel, there is room for you at his side. The Gospel of John is a gentle place to begin, and it costs you nothing but a little quiet and an honest look.

Frequently asked questions
- Is it too late to come to God?
- No. It is never too late. Jesus welcomed the thief beside him at the very last hour of his life (Luke 23:42-43), and told Nicodemus a person can be born anew even when old (John 3). God does not measure your welcome by how early you came.
- Have I wasted too many years to start now?
- The Gospel says no. God does not count the wasted years against those who turn to him; he receives them with joy. Whatever is behind you, the door is open today, and the rest of your life can be walked with him.
- How do I come back to God after so long away?
- Come honestly, just as you are. Tell God plainly that you want to know him, read a little of the Gospel of John to see what Jesus is like, and find a church or trusted believer to walk the road with you.
