Celebrations around the world

Simbang Gabi

the Philippines · December 16 to 24 (dawn)

Simbang Gabi is a beloved nine-day series of dawn services leading to Christmas, one of the most cherished traditions in the Philippines. Rising before the sun to worship, the people prepare their hearts for the coming of the Light.

How it is celebrated

Worshippers gather in the dark early morning for nine days, and afterward share warm rice cakes and drinks from stalls outside the church.

In the Word

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.Isaiah 9:2 (KJV)

One family, in every land

Across the world the church keeps this feast in a thousand ways, but it is one Lord all of it honors. Wherever you are, pray, read the Word, and gather with the family of God on The Living Bread. Free, with no ads, for all people.
