Saint Nicholas Day

Saint Nicholas Day honors the real fourth-century bishop of Myra, famous for his secret generosity to the poor, whose memory grew into the figure of Santa Claus. It is a day about giving quietly, as Christ gave.
How it is celebrated
Children leave out shoes or stockings to find them filled with small gifts and sweets in the morning, remembering the bishop who gave in secret.
