Celebrations around the world

Saint Lucia's Day

Sweden, Norway, and Scandinavia · December 13

In the darkest part of the northern winter, Saint Lucia's Day carries light. It remembers a young martyr whose name means light, and it points to Christ, the true Light that the darkness cannot overcome.

How it is celebrated

A girl dressed in white with a crown of candles leads a procession of children singing, bringing saffron buns and coffee in the early dark of the morning.

In the Word

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.John 8:12 (KJV)
