Can God use a broken person like me?

If you have decided you are too damaged, too far gone, or too much of a mess for God to want, this is one of the most freeing truths in the whole Bible. God does not use broken people despite their brokenness. He seems to prefer them.

“But he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
2 Corinthians 4:7

Look who He chose

The Bible is a long list of unlikely, flawed people God used greatly: a murderer who became a leader, a coward who became a hero, a betrayer restored and given a whole community to lead, a persecutor turned into the writer of much of the New Testament. God is not looking for people who have it together. He is looking for people who will let Him in, cracks and all.

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
Psalm 51:17

Your brokenness is not a disqualification. Often it is the very place where the light gets through, and the very thing that lets you reach people polished people never could.
