A Bible reading plan for
One Chapter a Day
One chapter a day, about 5 minutes
One chapter a day is one of the most sustainable Bible habits there is: short enough to keep for a lifetime, steady enough to carry you through the whole Bible over time. This plan gives you a simple order to follow so you are never deciding where to read, starting with Jesus and building from there.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Stage 1
Begin with a Gospel, a chapter a day. Start in John or Mark and meet Jesus first, over about three weeks.
Stage 2
Move to Genesis, a chapter a day, to read where the whole story begins, creation, the fall, and God's promises.
Stage 3
Add or alternate a psalm a day to learn to pray. The Psalms feed the heart alongside your other reading.
Stage 4
Read Acts a chapter a day to watch the good news spread and the church begin.
Stage 5
Take a chapter of Proverbs a day for practical wisdom, matching the date over a month.
Stage 6
Read a New Testament letter a chapter a day, starting with Romans, to understand the new life in Christ.
Stage 7
From here, keep going a chapter a day through any book or plan. A single daily chapter, kept for years, carries you through the whole Bible.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
A single chapter a day, kept faithfully, is not small in God's eyes; it is a daily appointment with the One who loves you. The aim is never merely to cover ground but to meet Jesus in the Word, a little each day, until knowing Him becomes the steady drumbeat of your life. Read one chapter, but read it to meet Him.

Is reading one chapter a day enough?
Yes. A single chapter a day is a genuine, sustainable habit that, kept faithfully, carries you through large portions of the Bible over time and keeps you daily in God's Word. Consistency matters far more than volume; a chapter a day you actually keep beats an ambitious plan you abandon.
How long does it take to read the Bible one chapter a day?
The Bible has 1,189 chapters, so a strict chapter a day covers the whole Bible in a little over three years. But the goal of a one-chapter-a-day habit is less about finishing on a schedule and more about a steady, lifelong rhythm of meeting God in His Word.
Where should I start reading a chapter a day?
Start with a Gospel to meet Jesus first, then move to Genesis for the start of the story, adding a psalm a day to learn to pray. This plan lays out a simple order so you are never stuck deciding, and can keep the habit going for years.
