A Bible reading plan for

New Parents

7 short days for tired parents

The newborn season is holy and exhausting, full of love and short on sleep. This seven-day plan is deliberately short and gentle, made for reading with one hand while you hold a baby with the other. It reminds you that your child is a gift, that God tends the weary parent, and that His grace covers the days you feel like you are failing.

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”Psalm 127:3 (KJV)

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1

    Psalm 127

Children are an heritage of the Lord. In the blur of exhaustion, remember what a gift you are holding.

  2. Day 2

    Deuteronomy 6

Teach them diligently unto thy children. The faith you live in ordinary moments is what you pass on.

  3. Day 3

    Proverbs 22

Train up a child in the way he should go. Parenting is a long, patient shaping, not a single performance.

  4. Day 4

    1 Samuel 1

Hannah gives her longed-for child back to God in prayer. Dedicate your little one to the Lord.

  5. Day 5

    Psalm 139

God knit your child together in the womb. The One who made them loves them even more than you do.

  6. Day 6

    Mark 10

Jesus took the children up in His arms and blessed them. Bring your child, and yourself, to His welcoming arms.

  7. Day 7

    Isaiah 40

He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and gently lead those that are with young. God is gentle with tired parents.

A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.

Where this plan is leading

God entrusted His own Son to weary human parents in a stable, and He entrusts your child to you. You will not parent perfectly, and you do not have to; the same grace that saves you carries you as a parent. Jesus welcomed little children and blessed them, and He welcomes yours, and you, with more tenderness than you can imagine.

Questions people ask

What does the Bible say about being a parent?

It calls children a gift and heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3), entrusts parents to teach and model faith to them (Deuteronomy 6:6-7), and pictures God Himself as a tender parent who gently leads those with young (Isaiah 40:11). Parenting is a sacred calling carried by God's grace, not by perfection.

How can new parents make time for God?

In this season, keep it small and grace-filled. A single verse, a whispered prayer over a feeding, a psalm read one-handed while rocking a baby, all count. God is not measuring the length of your quiet time; He is with you in the exhaustion. This plan is built for exactly these short, interrupted days.

What if I feel like I am failing as a parent?

Almost every parent feels this, especially when running on no sleep. God's grace covers your gaps, and your child needs a present, loving parent far more than a perfect one. Bring your fears to God, receive His mercy fresh each morning (Lamentations 3:22-23), and remember He loves your child even more than you do.
