A Bible reading plan for

The Discouraged

7 days, a lift for the weary

Discouragement whispers that it is not worth it, that nothing changes, that you should give up. This seven-day plan answers it, gently, with a God who strengthens the weary, who is not finished with your story, and who promises that in Him your labor is never wasted.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”Joshua 1:9 (KJV)

The plan, day by day

  1. Day 1

    Joshua 1

Be strong and of a good courage; the Lord thy God is with thee. Courage is commanded, and then made possible by His presence.

  2. Day 2

    Psalm 42

Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him. The word yet holds the door open to a better day.

  3. Day 3

    Isaiah 40

He giveth power to the faint. Waiting on the Lord renews strength you do not have on your own.

  4. Day 4

    1 Samuel 30

David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. When no one else lifts you, you can still turn your own heart to Him.

  5. Day 5

    Galatians 6

Be not weary in well doing: in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Your faithfulness is planting something you cannot yet see.

  6. Day 6

    Psalm 27

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage. Discouragement often lifts not all at once but as we keep waiting on Him.

  7. Day 7

    2 Corinthians 4

We faint not; though the outward man perish, the inward man is renewed day by day. God is doing unseen work in you even now.

A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.

Where this plan is leading

On the road to Emmaus, two heartbroken, discouraged disciples walked with the risen Jesus without knowing it, and He turned their despair into burning hope. He does the same for you. The One who was crushed and rose again is the reason your discouragement is not the final word; He is with you, and He is not done.

Questions people ask

What does the Bible say about discouragement?

It meets the discouraged with God's nearness and strength. Joshua 1:9 says be strong, for the Lord is with you; Isaiah 40:31 promises renewed strength to those who wait on Him; Galatians 6:9 says do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap. Discouragement is real, but it is not the end of the story.

How do I encourage myself when I feel like giving up?

1 Samuel 30:6 says David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. You can do the same: remember who God is, recall His past faithfulness, speak His promises back to your own heart, and take the next small step. This plan gives you a passage a day to do exactly that.

Is it a sin to be discouraged?

No. Elijah, David, and even Paul knew discouragement, and God did not condemn them; He fed them, strengthened them, and stayed with them. Discouragement is a human weight, not a moral failure, and God is gentle with the weary.
