Becoming a Disciple of Jesus

A disciple is simply a learner who follows a teacher closely enough to be changed by him. Jesus said that those who continue in his word are his disciples indeed, and that his disciples are known by their love. So becoming one is not passing an initiation; it is beginning to walk with him and stay with him. It starts the moment you say yes, and it grows for a lifetime by his grace.

What this looks like

You are corrected gently and you keep going. Over time, without noticing the day it happened, you find you love what he loves and want what he wants.

The whole thing is grace from beginning to end. You do not earn the title disciple; you receive a teacher who is patient beyond anything you deserve, and he does not give up on his students.
