What is Candlemas (the Presentation)?
Candlemas, forty days after Christmas, remembers the presentation of the infant Jesus in the temple, where old Simeon took him in his arms and called him a light to lighten the Gentiles. It is a feast of light, celebrating the child who is the true Light of the world.

How it is observed
It is kept on February 2, often with candles, as a hinge between the seasons of Christmas and the road toward Lent.
