The Story of Light
The Bible opens with light spoken into darkness and closes with a city that needs no sun. In between, light means creation, guidance, truth, and the presence of God, and it keeps gathering toward one face.

Let there be light
Genesis 1:3“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
Before anything else is made, God speaks light into the dark. Light is the first gift, the condition for seeing everything else that follows.

God leads His people through the wilderness as fire in the darkness. His presence is not distant; it is the light they walk by.

Isaiah promises that the people walking in darkness will see a great light. Matthew says this dawned when Jesus began to preach in Galilee.

Matthew 5:14“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”
Jesus turns and says His followers are light too, a city on a hill. His light is meant to be carried, not hidden.

Revelation 21:23“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
In the end the city needs no sun or moon, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is the lamp. Light and the Person become one.

From the first morning to the last city, light keeps pointing past itself. It was never only about photons; it was about the presence of God making a place where life could grow and truth could be seen. When Jesus says I am the light of the world, He gathers up every lamp and pillar and dawn in the story and says they were about Him. And the end of the Bible removes the sun, not because light is gone, but because the Source has come near enough that no lesser light is needed. To walk with Him is to stop stumbling in the dark and to become, yourself, a small carried flame.
If life has felt dark lately, that is not a sign you are beyond reach. Light comes to exactly such places. You do not have to understand everything to take one step toward it. Begin with Jesus here, or ask someone to pray with you, and let the light come one step at a time.

What does Jesus mean by I am the light of the world?
In John 8:12 Jesus claims to be the light of the world, promising that whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness but have the light of life. He means He reveals God truly, exposes what is false, and guides people out of confusion and fear into life with God.
Why does Revelation say there is no sun in heaven?
Revelation 21:23 says the new Jerusalem needs no sun or moon because the glory of God gives it light and the Lamb is its lamp. It is not that light is absent, but that God's own presence is so near that no created light is needed.
