Christians respond in different ways, and the honest ones resist turning a current gap in knowledge into a proof of God, since gaps have a way of closing. The deeper Christian claim is not that science cannot explain life, but that a God stands behind whatever explanation there is.

What the science actually says

Here candour matters, because this is a field where both sides are tempted to overclaim. The origin of life is not solved. Scientists have shown that some building blocks of life, amino acids and nucleotide components, can form under plausible early-earth or space conditions, and there are serious, testable hypotheses (an early RNA world, chemistry at hydrothermal vents, and others). But how you get from a soup of molecules to a self-replicating, evolving cell remains genuinely unknown. No one has made life from scratch, and there is no consensus mechanism.
