Joshua 14
The land west of the Jordan is distributed by lot, with Levi receiving cities but no territory. Caleb, now eighty-five, comes to Joshua and recalls how forty-five years earlier he alone with Joshua brought a faithful report and was promised Hebron. Still strong, he asks for that hill country, the land of the Anakim, trusting God to drive them out. Joshua blesses him and grants Hebron, because he wholly followed the LORD.
What happens in Joshua 14
Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and the tribal heads distribute the inheritance by lot, as the LORD commanded through Moses; the Levites receive only cities with pasturelands, no territorial share. Then Caleb of Judah approaches Joshua at Gilgal. He recalls what the LORD said through Moses at Kadesh-barnea forty-five years earlier, when Caleb was one of the twelve spies. While the others made the people's hearts melt with fear, Caleb brought back a faithful report and wholly followed the LORD, and Moses swore that the land his feet had walked would be his inheritance.
Now eighty-five, Caleb declares he is as strong as the day Moses sent him, still fit for war. He asks for the promised hill country, where the formidable Anakim live in great fortified cities, confident that with the LORD he can drive them out. Joshua blesses him and gives him Hebron, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel; and the land has rest from war.
Joshua 14 in context
Joshua 14 opens the account of the western tribal allotments and pauses to honor Caleb, whose story bridges back to Numbers 13 and 14. Forty-five years earlier, ten spies spread fear and a whole generation was condemned to die in the wilderness; only Caleb and Joshua trusted God.
Caleb's request for Hebron, home of the dreaded Anakim giants, shows a faith undimmed by age. The phrase wholly followed the LORD, repeated of Caleb, is the chapter's heartbeat.

And the land had rest from war.

How Joshua 14 points to Jesus
Caleb's story connects to Christ thematically through the theme of wholehearted faith that at last receives its inheritance. He believed God's promise when the crowd trembled, followed the LORD fully across forty-five years, and finally entered his inheritance, a pattern the New Testament commends: the just shall live by faith, and those who do not shrink back persevere to receive what is promised (Hebrews 10:38-39).
Caleb asking for the mountain of giants in old age, sure that the LORD would be with him, embodies the confidence Jesus invites, that with God even great obstacles yield. Christ is the one who secures the true inheritance for all who, like Caleb, follow Him fully and do not draw back, an inheritance that does not fade and rewards a lifetime of trust.

Why was Caleb given Hebron as his inheritance?
Caleb received Hebron because he wholly followed the LORD. Forty-five years earlier, as one of the twelve spies, he alone with Joshua trusted God while the others spread fear, and Moses swore the land Caleb walked would be his. Joshua honored that promise, blessing Caleb and granting him the hill country he requested. His inheritance was the fruit of a lifetime of undivided devotion to God (Joshua 14:9, Joshua 14:14).
