What Jesus was really asking

Blind Bartimaeus cries out for mercy, and the crowd tries to silence him. Jesus stops, calls him over, and asks, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The answer seems obvious, but Jesus asks anyway, giving the man the dignity of naming his own need out loud: Lord, that I might receive my sight.

How the question still finds us

God is not a mind reader we must impress with the right technique. He asks. He wants us to bring the real request, plainly, the way a child asks a parent. There is a strange grace in being asked what you want, especially when the world has spent years telling you to stay quiet and expect little. Jesus invites the ask.

If Jesus asked you that question right now, what would you actually ask Him for?

Lord, I bring You my real need, not a polished version. You ask what I want; here it is. Have mercy on me. Amen.
