Psalm Chapter 46, Explained
Psalm 46 is a fortress of a psalm. Though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, God's people will not fear, for He is a very present help in trouble. The chapter looks straight at catastrophe and refuses to panic, because God is nearer than the danger.
At its center a river gladdens the city of God, who is in her midst and will not be moved. The nations rage, kingdoms totter, but God speaks: be still, and know that I am God. Its steady refrain, that the LORD of hosts is with us, has carried countless people through fear and loss.
