As traditional religion has receded, a softer spirituality has grown to fill the space: trust the universe, manifest your desires, raise your vibration, align your energy, and what you want will be drawn to you. It is appealing because it keeps the comfort of the transcendent while removing the discomfort of a God with opinions. The universe, after all, makes no moral demands and never disagrees with you. It is spirituality with the self still firmly on the throne.
But look closely at what it actually offers, and it is thinner than it seems. A force is something you use; a technique to be mastered so that reality delivers. It cannot know you, cannot love you, cannot forgive you, cannot meet you in grief, because it is not a someone. When your manifestation fails, and it will, the universe has no comfort to give, only the quiet accusation that you did not believe hard enough. An impersonal force cannot hold you. It can only be operated, and blamed.
A force is something you use. A Father is Someone who knows your name. Those are not the same comfort.
Christianity claims that behind everything is not an it but a He: not an energy to be leveraged but a Person to be known, who cannot be manipulated by the right mindset because he is not a vending machine, and who offers something manifestation never can, to be loved rather than to be used. 'I have called thee by thy name,' God says; 'thou art mine.' Jesus taught us to pray not to the universe but to 'Our Father.' The difference is the difference between a technique and a relationship, between aligning your energy and being held by a love that knows exactly who you are. The universe cannot say your name. He already has.
