Is There Absolute Truth?
Absolute truth simply means truth that is true for everyone, everywhere, regardless of opinion. The claim that there is no absolute truth cannot survive its own test, since it states an absolute. Some truths really do bind us all. Christianity says these are not cold and impersonal but rooted in the character of a God who is himself true, and who came near in Jesus.
The human question
‘There is no absolute truth’ sounds open-minded, but it is a trap: the sentence itself claims to be absolutely true. We cannot actually live without some fixed points, that cruelty is wrong, that two and two make four, that people deserve dignity. The real question is not whether absolute truth exists, but where it comes from and how we come to know it.
The Christian perspective
Christianity roots absolute truth not in an abstract law but in the character of God, who does not change and does not lie, and who made himself knowable in Jesus.
If truth is grounded in a faithful God rather than in shifting human agreement, then it is both absolute and personal: firm enough to build a life on, and warm enough to be met. That is the surprising shape of the Christian answer.
