This is a misquote. The actual verse, 1 Timothy 6:10, says the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil. One small dropped phrase changes the meaning entirely.
What the Bible actually says
Paul does not say money is evil, but that the love of money, greed, is a root from which all sorts of evil grow, and that some, reaching for it, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. The problem is not the coin in your hand but the grip it has on your heart.

The deeper truth
