I Feel Empty

Feeling empty is one of the loneliest feelings there is, partly because it can be hard to explain even to yourself. You do not have to explain it here. You can simply admit it, and Christians believe that even the emptiness is a place God can meet you.

The Bible does not rush past this feeling. The Psalms name it plainly, and still turn, gently, toward hope. You are allowed to do both at once: to feel empty, and to reach.

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him.”

Psalm 42:11

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Psalm 34:18
