Your job is not separate from serving God; it can be one of the main ways you do it. The Bible says to do whatever you do heartily, as to the Lord. That turns ordinary work, done with integrity, excellence, and love of neighbour, into worship and service. You serve God in your career by how you work, why you work, and whom your work blesses.

Work itself can be worship

The old idea that ministry is sacred and work is secular is not the Bible’s idea. From the beginning, God gave people work to do, and Jesus himself spent most of his life as a carpenter. Your desk, your shop, your ward, your classroom, is a place of calling.

How to serve God at work

• Do it well. Excellence and diligence honour the God you work for (Colossians 3:23).
• Do it honestly. Integrity when no one is watching is a quiet, powerful witness.
• Love the people. Colleagues and customers are neighbours to be served, not used.
