How to Lead Someone to Christ

When someone is ready to follow Jesus, you can gently help them take that step. You are not saving them; you are pointing them to the Savior and walking with them to Him.

  1. Make sure they understand the good news

Help them see they are loved, that sin separates us from God, and that Jesus died and rose to bring them back.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.”John 3:16, King James Version

  2. Explain that it is a gift, received by faith

Salvation is not earned by being good enough. It is God's gift, taken hold of by trusting Jesus.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith ... it is the gift of God.”Ephesians 2:8, King James Version

  3. Invite them to turn and trust

Gently invite them to turn from going their own way and to put their trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord.

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”Acts 3:19, King James Version

  4. Pray with them

If they are ready, lead them in a simple prayer to confess Jesus and receive Him. The words are simple; the heart is what matters.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart ... thou shalt be saved.”Romans 10:9, King James Version

  5. Help them take the next steps

New faith needs care. Help them find a Bible, a church, and other believers, and keep walking beside them.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations ... teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”Matthew 28:19-20, King James Version

The One who makes this possible: Jesus

Remember that you cannot change a heart; only Jesus can, and He is the One doing the saving. Your privilege is simply to introduce someone to Him and celebrate as He does what only He can do. There is joy in heaven over one who comes home, and you get to be part of it.

Love is meant to be shared. You can find people near you, share the good news, or pray for the one on your heart.

Common questions

How do I lead someone to Christ?

Help them understand the good news, that Jesus died and rose to save them, explain that salvation is a gift received by faith, invite them to turn and trust Him, and pray with them. Then help them find a Bible, a church, and other believers.

Is there a prayer to lead someone to salvation?

There is no magic formula, but a simple prayer works: admitting they have sinned, believing Jesus died and rose for them, and asking Him to forgive them and be their Lord. What matters is a sincere heart turning to Jesus, not exact words.

What should someone do right after they trust Jesus?

Encourage them to start reading a Gospel, to pray daily, to find a Bible-honoring church, and to connect with other believers who will walk with them. New faith grows best with care and community.
