The short answer
Nobody knows exactly, and anyone who gives you a single confident number is estimating. Congregations open and close constantly, most countries keep no central register, and the ones that do count different things. What we can do is show our work: The Living Bread currently maps 9,135 Christian churches across 23 countries from open data, every one of them a real place you can go and see.Choose a country below to see how many we map there, its population and Christian share with sources, and to explore the churches city by city. This is a growing, verifiable directory rather than a census, so every number here is a floor and never a guess. Where the data does not say, we say that instead of filling the gap.
In the United States we also count state by state: Ohio, Texas, California and every other state have their own page, with the cities and traditions listed.
