Ephesians Chapter 2, Explained
Ephesians 2 gives one of the clearest summaries of the gospel in the Bible. Paul says we were dead in our sins, following the ways of the world, with no power to save ourselves. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love, made us alive together with Christ. By grace we have been saved.
The famous words follow: it is by grace we are saved, through faith, and this is not from ourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. We are His workmanship, created for good works. The second half of the chapter celebrates how Christ has broken down the wall between Jew and Gentile, making one new people and bringing near those who were far off.
