Did Jesus claim to be God?
The short answer
Yes, though often in ways richer than a bare slogan. Jesus forgave sins that only God can forgive, accepted worship, applied God's own sacred name to himself, and said that to see him was to see the Father. His first followers, devout monotheists, worshipped him as Lord, and his enemies tried to kill him precisely for making himself equal with God. He did not merely teach about God; he spoke and acted as God among us.
Some suggest Jesus never claimed divinity and that his followers invented it later. But when you read the earliest accounts, the claim is woven all through what he said and did, sometimes bluntly, often in ways that a first-century Jewish audience understood immediately and found either glorious or blasphemous.
What he said and did
Jesus forgave sins outright, which onlookers rightly noted only God can do. He received worship rather than refusing it. He took to himself titles and even the divine name, saying before Abraham was, I am. He claimed to be one with the Father and the final judge of all people. These are not the words of a mere teacher of ethics.

How others reacted
His hearers did not miss the point. More than once they picked up stones to kill him, saying it was because he, a man, made himself God. And his earliest followers, Jews fiercely committed to one God, came to worship Jesus as Lord and God, a staggering shift that itself needs explaining. The resurrection is what convinced them the claim was true.
It comes back to Jesus
So the real question Jesus leaves us is not whether he claimed to be God but what we make of the claim. As many have observed, someone who says such things is either deceiving, deluded, or telling the truth; he does not leave the option of merely a nice teacher.
