Christian Service
Christian Service and Relief
Christian service is love made practical: feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, welcoming the stranger, and visiting the prisoner, because Jesus said that whatever we do for the least of these, we do for him. This guide points two ways. If you need help, you will find real, free resources first. If you want to serve, you will find where your gifts are needed.
What Christian service is
From the earliest days, Christians have cared for the poor, the sick, the orphan, and the outcast, not to earn God’s favour but in response to it. That impulse built hospitals, food banks, shelters, and some of the largest relief organizations in the world. This hub gathers the categories of Christian service so that whoever comes, in need or ready to give, can take the next step.

If you want to serve
Service usually starts small and local: a meal handed to a neighbour, an hour given at a shelter, a name carried in prayer.
Find a way to serve in the Living Bread app, where local needs and volunteer openings are posted by real people and verified ministries. You can also find a church near you and ask how to join its outreach, or explore the directory of churches to see who is already serving in your area.

Frequently asked questions
- What is Christian service?
- Christian service is caring for people in practical ways, feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, welcoming the stranger, and visiting the sick and imprisoned, out of love for God and neighbour. Jesus taught that such acts, done for the least, are done for him (Matthew 25:35-40).
- How do I find Christian help near me?
- If you need help, dial 211 or visit 211.org, or search findhelp.org by ZIP code, both free. Many local churches and Christian ministries also give food, clothing, and assistance to anyone who asks. See our help-near-me page for more.
- How can I serve or volunteer with a Christian organization?
- Start local: ask a nearby church about its outreach, or look for verified serve listings in the Living Bread app. Many national organizations also welcome volunteers and donations. See our page on how to volunteer with a Christian organization.
Why Christians serve
Underneath every soup kitchen, shelter, and relief truck is a Person. Jesus said that whatever we do for the hungry, the sick, the stranger, and the prisoner, we do for him. Service is not how Christians earn God’s love; it is how they answer it. If you want to know the One who first loved us, you are welcome to come and see, in your own time and with no pressure.
