Three Kings' Day (Dia de los Reyes)
Spain, Mexico, and across Latin America · January 6 (Epiphany)
Three Kings' Day celebrates the wise men who followed the star to worship the newborn Jesus and bring him gifts. In much of the Spanish-speaking world it is the great gift-giving day of the Christmas season, honoring the King the Magi came to adore.
How it is celebrated
Children leave out shoes to be filled with gifts, and families share a ring-shaped sweet bread, the rosca de reyes, with a small figure of the Christ child baked inside. Parades of the three kings fill the streets in many cities.
