Celebrations around the world
Nine Lessons and Carols
England and the English-speaking world · Advent and Christmas Eve
A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols tells the whole story of salvation, from the fall to the birth of Christ, in nine Scripture readings woven together with carols. Made famous by King's College, Cambridge, it is now kept around the world.
How it is celebrated
Nine readers, from a child to a leader, read the appointed passages, and between them the congregation and choir sing carols that trace the promise of a Saviour to its fulfillment.
In the Word
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.John 1:14 (KJV)
