Prayer & Presence

Can God Hear Me?

Can God hear you? The Christian answer is yes, and not because your prayers are eloquent or your life is in order, but because God is the kind of God who draws near to people who are hurting. Scripture says he is close to the brokenhearted. If that is you tonight, you are exactly the person he listens for.

If this is you. Sometimes prayer feels like talking into an empty room. That feeling is real, and it does not mean you are unheard. Many people of deep faith have felt it and kept speaking anyway.

The Bible never promises that prayer will feel like a phone call. It promises something quieter and steadier: that God is near, that he hears the honest cry, and that he is especially attentive to the ones who feel far away.

What Scripture says

“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
Psalm 34:17
“The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”
Psalm 145:18
“Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:12-13

A prayer you can pray right now

A prayer you can pray right nowGod, I do not know if You can hear me, but I am going to speak anyway. If You are there, I need You to hear this. Here is what is on my heart. Please do not let me be alone in it. Amen.

And if you want to know the One you are praying to

You do not have to believe anything yet. Prayer is simply turning toward God as honestly as you can, and Christians believe that in Jesus, God turned toward us first. You do not have to take our word for it. Read his own words quietly and see what you find. The Gospel of John is a gentle place to begin, and it costs you nothing but a little quiet and an honest look.
