A Bible reading plan for
Reading the Bible in 6 Months
6 months, about 6 to 7 chapters a day
Reading the whole Bible in six months is a middle pace, faster than a year, gentler than ninety days. It comes to about six or seven chapters a day, roughly half an hour, and keeps the story connected enough that the whole sweep stays fresh. This plan lays out a month-by-month path from Genesis to Revelation.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”Joshua 1:8 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Month 1
The Law: Genesis through Deuteronomy. Creation, the patriarchs, the exodus, and the covenant at Sinai.
Month 2
History, part one: Joshua through 2 Kings. The land, the judges, and the rise and fall of the kingdom.
Month 3
History and wisdom: Chronicles through Song of Solomon, including Job, Psalms, and Proverbs.
Month 4
The prophets: Isaiah through Malachi. God's warnings, grief, and astonishing promises of a Messiah.
Month 5
The Gospels and Acts: the life of Jesus from four witnesses, and the birth of the church.
Month 6
The letters and Revelation: how to live the new life in Christ, and the world made new at last.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
Whatever the pace, the point of reading the whole Bible is not to finish a book but to meet the One the book is about. Six months from now, the aim is not to say you read it, but to know Jesus better, having watched the whole story of Scripture bend toward Him. Read to meet Him, and let the finish line be a Person, not a page.

How many chapters a day to read the Bible in 6 months?
About six to seven chapters a day. The Bible has 1,189 chapters, so six months works out to roughly six or seven daily, around twenty-five to thirty minutes of reading. It is a faster pace than a year but gentler than the ninety-day plan.
Is 6 months a good pace to read the whole Bible?
It is an excellent middle pace. It moves quickly enough to keep the whole story connected and fresh, but slowly enough to be sustainable for most people. If it proves too much in a busy season, you can slow to a one-year pace; if you want to go faster, the ninety-day plan reads about twelve chapters a day.
What order should I read the Bible in for a 6-month plan?
Straight through, Genesis to Revelation, works well and needs only a bookmark, as this month-by-month outline shows. If you would rather follow the timeline of events, a chronological plan re-sequences the readings; both cover the whole Bible in the six months.
