A Bible reading plan for
Learning Contentment
7 days toward a settled heart
Contentment is not having everything; it is a heart at rest whatever it has. This seven-day plan walks through the Scriptures that teach that quiet, learned peace, loosening the grip of more and anchoring your satisfaction in the God who is always enough.
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”Philippians 4:11 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Day 1
I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Contentment is learned, not born, and He teaches it.
Day 2
Godliness with contentment is great gain. Having food and raiment, let us be therewith content. Enough is a gift, not a prison.
Day 3
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. When He is your shepherd, want loses its power over you.
Day 4
Be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave thee. His presence is the reason we can rest in what we have.
Day 5
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver. More was never going to be enough; the ache points to God.
Day 6
Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added. Right priorities quiet a grasping heart.
Day 7
I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned. A soul weaned from craving rests like a child on its mother.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
Paul learned contentment in prison because his treasure was Christ, not his circumstances. Jesus, who had nowhere to lay His head, is the one possession no loss can take and no gain can improve. When He is your portion, you can face plenty or want with the same steady peace, because you already have the best thing.

What does the Bible say about contentment?
Paul says he learned to be content in any circumstance (Philippians 4:11-13), and that godliness with contentment is great gain (1 Timothy 6:6). The Bible roots contentment not in having more but in the presence of God, who says, I will never leave you (Hebrews 13:5).
How do I become more content?
Contentment is learned, Paul says, usually through practice and through fixing our satisfaction on God rather than our stuff. Gratitude for what you have, generosity that loosens the grip of greed, and daily time with God who is always enough all help train a restless heart toward rest. This plan is a place to begin.
Is it wrong to want a better life?
Not necessarily; hope and healthy ambition are good gifts. The danger is when wanting more becomes a restless craving that never satisfies and steals today's joy. The Bible redirects that hunger to God Himself, the only one who truly fills it.
