A Bible reading plan for
When You Are Struggling With Anger
7 days, one honest step at a time
Anger is not always sin, but it can rule us, harden us, and hurt the people we love. This seven-day plan brings your anger honestly to God: it names what is underneath, teaches a slower heart, and points to the only love strong enough to soften what has gone hard in us.
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”James 1:19 (KJV)
The plan, day by day
Day 1
Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. God is not asking you to feel nothing, but to slow down before you act.
Day 2
A soft answer turns away wrath. Notice how your words either pour water or gasoline on the fire.
Day 3
Be angry, and sin not. Anger itself is not the sin; what you do with it, and how long you keep it, is where the danger lies.
Day 4
Fret not thyself because of evildoers. Much of our anger is really a struggle to trust God with what is unfair.
Day 5
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty. Patience is a strength, not a weakness.
Day 6
Jesus goes to the root, the anger in the heart, and calls us to be reconciled. Is there someone to go to?
Day 7
Put off anger, wrath, malice. Put on kindness and forgiveness, as Christ forgave you. The old can be taken off and the new put on.
A reading plan is a servant, not a master. If you miss days there is no guilt here and no scorecard in heaven. Simply begin again where you left off. The goal was never to finish a list but to meet the One these words are about, Jesus, who is glad to be found by you today.
Where this plan is leading
Jesus felt anger, at real injustice and hard hearts, yet He never sinned in it, and on the cross He met the worst of human rage with, Father, forgive them. He can give you both His honesty about wrong and His power to forgive, so that anger no longer runs your life. Bring Him the heat you cannot cool on your own.

Is anger a sin according to the Bible?
Not in itself. Ephesians 4:26 says, be angry and sin not, and Scripture shows God and Jesus feeling righteous anger. The danger is in what anger does: when it turns to bitterness, revenge, or harm, or when we nurse it. The Bible calls us to be slow to anger and quick to forgive.
What does the Bible say about controlling anger?
It calls us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath (James 1:19), to give a soft answer (Proverbs 15:1), and not to let the sun go down on our anger (Ephesians 4:26). More deeply, it invites us to trust God with the injustices that anger us and to forgive as we have been forgiven.
How can God help me with my anger?
God does more than manage anger; He changes the heart underneath it. As you bring your anger to Him honestly, He gives patience, He carries the wrongs you cannot make right, and through Christ He softens what has hardened. This plan is a way to begin bringing it to Him each day.
