A Prayer When You Are Afraid About Money
Sometimes you do not need a lecture about finances; you just need to pray, because the fear is too heavy to carry silently. This page is for that. You do not have to have your situation figured out or your faith feeling strong; you only have to turn the fear toward God, who invites you to bring Him every worry, money included. Be careful for nothing, Scripture says, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. The word is every thing. Your money fear qualifies. Below is a prayer you can borrow when your own words run out.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”Philippians 4:6
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”Matthew 6:33
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”Psalm 34:4
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”1 Peter 5:7
Let us be honest about the fear
Praying about money will not always change the numbers overnight, and this prayer is not a magic formula. What it does is move the fear from a loop in your head into the hands of God, and it changes how you carry the weight while the situation works out. You may pray and still feel afraid tomorrow; that is not the prayer failing, that is fear being human, and prayer is how you keep handing it over rather than being ruled by it. So pray honestly, and then take the wise next step, and pray again as the fear returns, as many times as it takes.
Where provision actually comes from
Prayer about money is meant to be paired with real trust and, often, real help from others, not carried in isolation. Casting all your care upon him, Scripture says, for he careth for you, and cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee. But do not only pray alone; let a trusted person into the fear, and where practical help exists, pursue it. God delights to provide through His people and through the doors you knock on. So say the prayer below, and then reach out, because the burden was never meant to be shouldered by you alone in the dark.
The Father who feeds the birds
When you pray about money, you are speaking to the Father Jesus described, who feeds the birds, clothes the fields, and knows what you need before you ask. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, He said, and all these things shall be added unto you. Pray in Jesus' name, because He is the One who turns your fear toward a Father who can be trusted and who has proven His love at the cross. Bring Him the money fear, cast the whole burden onto Him, and let the God who sustains His people sustain you now, one day, one prayer at a time.

Questions people ask
What if I do not feel any calmer after praying?
Feelings are not the measure of whether a prayer worked. God hears the honest handing-over of your fear whether or not you feel an immediate shift, and peace sometimes comes gradually as you keep praying and keep trusting. Pray anyway, take the next wise step, and bring the fear back to God each time it returns. The reality rests in His faithfulness, not in your emotions.
Can I pray about money, or is that too selfish?
You can and should. Jesus taught us to ask for our daily bread, the most basic provision. Bringing genuine financial fear to God is exactly what He invites, not selfishness. It would only become distorted if money became your god or your prayers turned to greed. Pray honestly about your real needs while keeping God, not money, at the center of your heart.
Who can pray with me about this?
You do not have to carry this alone. You can ask someone to pray with you, and letting even one trustworthy person into your money fear can lighten it and open doors to practical help. Scripture pairs prayer with carrying one another's burdens. Reach out to a friend, a pastor, or your church, and let the burden be shared rather than shouldered in secret.
