What Does the Bible Say About Saving Money?

The Bible commends wise saving and planning, holding up the ant that stores in summer and warning against foolishly devouring all we have. At the same time it cautions against trusting in riches or hoarding for ourselves while ignoring God and others. Saving is wise; making savings our security is not.

The danger is not saving but where we place our security. When savings become the thing we trust instead of God, or an excuse to stop giving, wisdom has curdled into greed. Save wisely, hold it loosely, and keep giving generously.

Jesus warns that no amount of stored-up wealth can secure a soul; true riches are found in being rich toward God, who alone is our lasting security.
