What Does the Bible Say About Reconciliation?

Reconciliation is close to the heart of the gospel, because God reconciled us to himself through Christ and now calls us to be peacemakers. Scripture urges us to seek out the one we are at odds with, to forgive, and where possible to be restored. It is not always fully possible, but the pursuit of peace is always ours to attempt.

Reconciliation matters so much to God that Jesus says to leave your worship and go make peace first. Taking the initiative, even when you feel wronged, reflects the God who took the initiative with us.

Reconciliation takes two, so it is not always fully possible, and safety and wisdom matter. But the willingness to forgive, to reach out, and to seek peace is always something God invites us into.

The deepest answer is Jesus

God did not wait for us to come to him; he reconciled us through the cross while we were still enemies, and now sends us to carry that same peace to others.
