The Bible urges us to seek discernment, the God-given ability to tell truth from error, good from evil, and wise paths from foolish ones. It is not the same as being cynical or harsh. Biblical discernment abounds together with love, seeking to hold on to what is good and let go of what is harmful, always asking God for wisdom he promises to give.

The deepest answer is Jesus

Jesus, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom, gives his Spirit to guide us into truth and to help us discern the way.
