Who was Saint Joseph?
Saint Joseph was the carpenter of Nazareth, the husband of Mary and the earthly guardian of Jesus. The Gospels show him as a just man who obeyed God quietly and provided for the holy family by the work of his hands.
Why the patron of workers and laborers?
As a working craftsman who supported his family by honest labor, Joseph is the patron of workers, and a second feast, Saint Joseph the Worker, is kept on May 1.
