Who was Saint Thomas Aquinas?
Saint Thomas Aquinas was the greatest theologian of the Middle Ages, a Dominican friar whose vast writings, above all the Summa Theologica, still shape Christian thought. Yet near the end of his life, after a profound experience of God, he called all his writing straw compared to what he had seen.
Why the patron of students and scholars?
As the model of the Christian scholar who put all his learning at the service of God, he is the patron of students, universities, and theologians.
