Who was Saint Anthony of Padua?
Saint Anthony of Padua was a brilliant Franciscan preacher of the thirteenth century, so gifted that crowds filled the squares to hear him. He was a friend of the poor and a tireless teacher of the faith.
Why the patron of lost things?
A story tells that a novice took a book of psalms Anthony had used, and after Anthony prayed, the man returned it; from this he became the patron invoked for finding what is lost.
