Who was Saint Hubert?
Saint Hubert was a nobleman of the eighth century who, tradition says, was converted while hunting when he saw a stag bearing a shining cross between its antlers. He gave up his old life, became a bishop, and evangelized the forests of the Ardennes.
Why the patron of hunters?
From that vision in the hunt, he became the patron of hunters and of those who work in the forest.
