When God feels distant
Why does God feel so far away?
If God feels distant right now, you are not failing, and you are not alone in it. Some of the most faithful people in the Bible felt exactly this, and said so, honestly, to God Himself.
“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
Psalm 22:1
“Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?... even there shall thy hand lead me.”
Psalm 139:7-10
Nearer than the feeling
Feelings of distance are not proof of absence. God promises to be near even when we cannot sense Him, close to the broken, present in the dark. You can be completely honest with Him about the silence. He can take it.
God, You feel far away, and I am tired of pretending otherwise. If You are near, help me know it. Meet me in the silence. I am still here. Amen.
