What Galatians 5:1 means
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Christ did not free us so we could drift back into old chains, whether of sin or of joyless rule-keeping. Freedom is something to stand firm in, guarding it as a costly gift rather than trading it away.
