The Manna and the Bread of Life
Why they are connected
After feeding thousands, Jesus points back to the manna and says the true bread from heaven is not the manna their fathers ate, who still died, but the One the Father has sent. The manna kept a people alive for a day; He gives a life that death cannot end. The wilderness gift was the picture; He is the reality.

Who has recognized it
Jesus Himself makes the connection in John 6, drawing the line directly from the manna of Exodus to His own person. It is His own teaching, not a later reading imposed on the text.
Where readers differ
Christian traditions read John 6 with different emphases, some hearing a strong reference to Communion, others a call to believing trust. But that Jesus links Himself to the manna is stated plainly in the chapter.
Why it matters for seeing Christ
It means the hunger no meal ever fully satisfies is real, and it has an answer. Jesus does not offer a technique for managing that hunger; He offers Himself as the bread that ends it. This is the connection our name is taken from.
